Ohama Beach (Tarama)

Ohama Beach (Tarama)

大浜ビーチ · Okinawa, Japan

Tarama Island is a flat, atoll-formed remote island between Miyako and Ishigaki. It is two hours by ferry from Miyakojima, or 25 minutes by RAC light aircraft. Ohama Beach is the island's signature south-coast beach, famous for its fukugi (Indian-mulberry) windbreak forest. Visitors increase around the 'August Dance' (an Important Intangible Folk Cultural Property) held on the 8th day of the 8th lunar month.
