Shiraho Beach

白保海岸 · Okinawa, Japan

Home to what is said to be the Northern Hemisphere's largest colony of blue coral (Aosango). It became a symbol of the environmental movement during the 1989 plan to reclaim land for New Ishigaki Airport, which was ultimately relocated elsewhere. Awareness of coral protection is high, and using a guided tour is the norm.
